In our #InsideAT series, we regularly introduce new employees. Today it's Florian Hornung's turn. He starts with us as a Senior Data Visualization Engineer - in this interview he tells us what drove him to join, what his background is and how he likes to spend his life outside of work.
What position will you take on at AT?
Florian Hornung: I start at AT as a Senior Data Visualization I'm an engineer in Daniel's team and I'm trying to build up the Qlik area in particular.
How did you become aware of AT?
Florian Hornung: Through Daniel, of course I knew AT before as a former neighbour and partly partner of my previous employer.
Why did you choose AT?
Florian Hornung: To get to know a lot of new things in every direction after 6 years with my first employer!
What are you looking forward to the most?
Florian Hornung: Here's to many new colleagues, many new challenges, new Customers and an exciting and exhilarating start.
What did you do before?
Florian Hornung: I spent 6 years at NTT DATA as a Business Analytics Consultant in the Self Service BI team, where I mainly worked with Qlik. Before that, I successfully completed an apprenticeship as an IT specialist (system integration) and 5 years of studies in Deggendorf (Bachelor & Master Business Informatics).
Where were you born and raised?
Florian Hornung: I am Oberfrangge - although I don't think you can hear it in my voice J - born in Lichtenfels, and I come from Breitengüßbach, a town with about 5,000 inhabitants, about 10 kilometres from Bamberg.
What do you do in your spare time?
Florian Hornung: Sports of any kind (self: Ball sports actually always go: I played football for almost 20 years..., beach volleyball, hiking, skiing etc.; winter sports and basketball fan), travelling, lots of reading
What has been your favourite travel destination so far and where would you definitely like to go?
Favourite travel destination: difficult..., Top: South Africa, Canada, USA West Coast & Australia. Still on the travel list: many things in Europe.
What is your favourite film / series?
I guess that's Lord of the Rings / Game of Thrones.
How would you describe yourself in one sentence?
A very nice and sweet guy ;-), who is very helpful (saying no is sometimes not so easy, Daniel can confirm that :), reliable and open.
What was the last book you read?
Mother's Day by Nele Neuhaus.
What would you get up for in the middle of the night?
For my wife, family and real friends!
What do you always carry in your pocket?
Temporary handkerchiefs 😉
