In our #InsideAT series, we regularly introduce new employees. Today it's Antje Jablonka's turn. She is starting with us as a Data Science trainee - in this interview she tells us what drove her to join us, what her background is and how she likes to spend her life outside of work.
What position will you take on at AT?
Antje Jablonka: I started on 15.04. as a Trainee Data Science started at Alexander Thamm GmbH.
How did you become aware of AT?
Antje Jablonka: A former work colleague told me about AT and I also came across the advertisement for the trainee programme while searching for a job on the Internet and simply applied.
Why did you choose AT?
Antje Jablonka: I find the trainee programme very exciting in order to gain a solid grounding in the (very complex) topic of "Data Science" and build up a broad basic knowledge.
What are you looking forward to the most?
Antje Jablonka: I am most looking forward to nice colleagues, a pleasant Working atmosphere and an inspiring environment 😊
What did you do before?
Antje Jablonka: I first did a Master's degree in mathematics in Aachen, then went to Oman for an internship and worked as a research assistant at the university for a year. Alongside this job, I continued my additional Master's degree in economics and then finished it last year with an external thesis at an IT company in Munich. And here I am now 😊
Where were you born and raised?
Antje Jablonka: I was born in a small town in the Harz Mountains, but later grew up and went to school in the beautiful city of Ratingen (which means in the direct vicinity of Düsseldorf).
What do you do in your spare time?
Antje Jablonka: In my free time, I try to keep fit in general (which sometimes works better and sometimes worse...), like to be out and about in the mountains and don't necessarily say no to a beer in the evening. Apart from that, I like to travel to get to know new nature, culture and exciting people.
What was your dream job as a child?
Antja Jablonka: As a child, I wanted to become a veterinarian for a long time, but luckily I changed my mind in the end.
What has been your favourite travel destination so far and where would you definitely like to go?
Antje Jablonka: I find it very difficult to decide on a specific destination, so here are my top 3 holidays: With a campervan through New Zealand, by train through Sri Lanka and hiking in Nepal 😊 Where I haven't been yet, but would definitely like to go is South America. But first I want to learn Spanish...
How would you describe yourself in one sentence?
Antje Jablonka: I would generally describe myself as positive, spontaneous and active. But the best thing is just to get to know me in person 😊
What are your three most important work utensils?
Antje Jablonka: I would say first of all I need my head to think, then a piece of paper with a pen to organise my thoughts and lastly a laptop to Google everything I don't know.
What was the last book you read?
Antje Jablonka: The last book I read was "The illiterate woman who could count" by Jonas Jonasson.
What could you definitely not do without in your travel suitcase?
Antje Jablonka: On my last backpacker trips, my small travel pillow for naps on the bus, my mobile phone for trip planning and my travel diary were definitely not to be missed.
What would you get up for in the middle of the night?
Antje Jablonka: Actually, you can only get me out of bed at night if I'm hungry or thirsty or have to go to the toilet. Well, if the house was on fire, I'd probably get up too 😉 I don't want to go to the bathroom.
What do you always carry in your pocket?
Antje Jablonka: Apart from the normal trio of mobile phone, wallet and keys, you can usually find things like a pen, a pack of tissues and a few hair ties in my bag.
