In our #InsideAT series, we regularly introduce new employees. Today it's Michael Gehring's turn. He is starting with us as a Data Science Trainee - in this interview he tells us what drove him to join, what his background is and how he likes to spend his life outside of work.
What position will you take on at AT?
Michael Gehring: I start as a Data Science trainee.
How did you become aware of AT?
Michael Gehring: I was looking for a trainee programme in the field of data science and that's how I found out about AT.
Why did you choose AT?
Michael Gehring: On the one hand, because of the opportunity to complete a trainee programme and thus gain insight into all relevant areas of the data science field, and on the other hand, because of the good atmosphere and the start-up culture.
What are you looking forward to the most?
Michael Gehring: To actively working on exciting projects and applying and expanding my knowledge in practice.
What did you do before?
Michael Gehring: A year ago I completed my Master's degree in business mathematics at the University of Mannheim and then travelled through Southeast Asia, India and Sri Lanka.
Where were you born and raised?
Michael Gehring: In Dillingen a. d. Donau.
What do you do in your spare time?
Michael Gehring: I like to travel and do a lot of sport (everything from cycling tours to skiing and surfing).
What has been your favourite travel destination so far and where would you definitely like to go?
Michael Gehring: My favourite travel destination so far was India. I was amazed by the culture and the diversity of the landscape and the people (and of course the food, I could eat Buttered Chicken every day). I definitely want to go back and explore the country even more! I would also like to hike the Annapurna Trek in Nepal.
What was your dream job as a child?
Michael Gehring: That was a professional footballer.
What is your favourite film / series?
Michael Gehring: I don't have one favourite film, but "The Boondock Saints" and "Departed" are high on the list.
What was the last book you read?
Michael Gehring: Superintelligience by Nick Bostrom.
What could you definitely not do without in your travel suitcase?
Michael Gehring: Flip-flops.
What used to be your favourite subject at school?
Michael Gehring: Sport.
What do you always carry in your pocket?
Michael Gehring: Mobile phone, wallet and front door key.
