In our #InsideAT series we regularly present new employees. Today it's Zdravko Yanakiev's turn. He starts with us as a data engineer - in the interview he tells us what drove him to it, what his background is and how he likes to spend his life outside of work.
What position will you take on at [at]?
I start at [at] as a data engineer in Leipzig.
How did you find out about [at]?
During my job search on LinkedIn, I came across an [at] job ad. The opportunity to gain more work experience in my favourite field of AI immediately piqued my interest.
Why did you choose [at]?
Several factors play a role here. On the one hand, the team made a very friendly and likeable impression on me. Secondly, I have a great interest in AI as a playing field for innovation. And my place of work in Leipzig is also an important factor in my decision - Leipzig is one of my favourite cities.
What are you looking forward to the most?
I am looking forward to the varied tasks in projects for different clients as well as to deepening my expertise.
What did you do before?
I studied computer science at the TU Dresden. During my studies, I worked as a student trainee in software development and as an assistant at an AI research institute.
Where were you born and raised?
I was born in Sofia, Bulgaria. After high school I moved to Dresden to study.
What do you do in your spare time?
I like collecting and listening to records. I love travelling, hiking and going to concerts. Lately, however, I tend to watch films or series or play on my Switch console.
What has been your favourite travel destination so far and where would you definitely like to go?
I thought it was a dream to visit Rome in May. In any case, I would like to get to know more exotic destinations outside Europe in the future, for example Japan.
What is your favourite film / series?
My favourite series is "Twin Peaks" by American director David Lynch. An incredible surreal atmosphere with a heavenly soundtrack.
What was the last book you read?
"Fictions" by Jorge Luis Borges - a collection of fantastic short stories that often deal with philosophical themes.
