In our #InsideAT series we regularly present introduces new employees. Today it's Kathrin Guckes' turn. She starts with us as a Senior Data Visualization Engineer - in the interview she tells us what drove her to it, what her background is and how she likes to spend her life outside of work.
What position will you take on at AT?
I am a Senior Data Visualization Engineer.
How did you become aware of AT?
Alena raved to me about [at] and from then on it was clear: "I'll apply there too!"
Why did you choose AT?
Visualisation is just my thing and that's exactly what I get to live out at [at].
What are you looking forward to the most?
What I'm looking forward to most is all the people and challenges there are to discover.
What did you do before?
I was a research assistant at the Technical University of Darmstadt in the "Graphical Interactive Systems" department in the "Visual Search and Analysis" group. Our group dealt with the visualisation of abstract data in the context of basic and application-oriented research.
Where were you born and raised?
I was born and grew up in Wertheim am Main. It's a small town in Baden-Württemberg on the border with Bavaria, directly on the Main and Tauber rivers, with a beautiful historic old town and castle.
What do you do in your spare time?
In my spare time ...
- ... I play with and click our cats
- ... I live my creativity - playing the clarinet, photography, crochet
- ... I dance standard and latin with my husband
What has been your favourite travel destination so far and where would you definitely like to go?
My favourite destination was Scotland. Where I would like to travel to next is again a country with rich wildlife - Scotland, Africa, Australia, New Zealand are the candidates
What was your dream job as a child?
I was a vet when I was little and then I became a computer scientist quite quickly because I was fascinated by how I could teach the computer what to do. I can't tell it what to do 🙂

Big Bang Theory - by far
What would you get up for in the middle of the night?
A Formula 1 race
