Back to the Future of AI | Ep. 33 | Florian Dohmann

Dohmann shares how he moved from early Big Data projects at IBM to becoming a pioneer in creative and organizational applications of AI. He explains why employing AI only makes sense to him when it is embedded not just technically, but also culturally and strategically within companies where it creates real value.

A standout story is his early work with Generative AI, including the world’s first “Artificially Intelligent Muse” developed for artist Roman Lipski, long before generative AI reached the mainstream. The project took him all the way to the National Museum of China and even onto a stage with Google CEO Sundar Pichai. It exemplifies AI as a source of inspiration rather than a mere automation tool.

He also emphasizes that responsible AI goes way beyond ethics and bias. It’s about impact, human responsibility, organizational change, and true empowerment. At the same time, he sees Agentic AI as a new architectural pattern that enables digital solutions previously considered impossible. Birds on Mars positions itself deliberately “between punk and perfection”: creative, bold, and firmly focused on real-world impact.

Ultimately, Dohmann paints a picture of AI as a transformative foundational technology whose true power emerges only when technology, organization, culture and responsibility come together.
