Daily routine of a Data Engineering Trainee

On this page, we would like to give you an insight into the activities of the trainee programme. Our Data Engineering Trainee Markus Appel describes what a typical working day of our Data Engineering Trainees looks like and what tasks he takes on.

08:45 h

"Having just arrived, the first thing I have is a coffee from our filter machine. I enjoy it on our roof terrace with a wonderful view of the city and chat with my colleagues. The next thing is to check my Outlook mails!

09:00 h

"Overnight there was a problem with a data pipeline we run for one of our clients. A look at the pipeline logs quickly brings the problem to light, so I can make it in time for the daily stand-up."

09:15 h

"The daily Scrum meeting is coming up and I discuss with my team which tasks are prioritised today and where we need to tackle together."

09:30 h

"After our team had a coordination meeting with a customer last week to set up a new data pipeline, I am now creating a first draft together with a colleague. This involves selecting suitable technologies based on the customer's requirements and ensuring smooth interaction. "

12:00

}
"It's lunch time - we go downstairs to the canteen with colleagues or make ourselves comfortable in the common rooms for our weekly "Bowl Day".

12:45 p.m.

"After lunch, there's time for a game of table football with your colleagues - the revenge is on the cards 😉 "

13:00

u
"Now it's on to the weekly team meeting: current topics are discussed and open questions about projects, upcoming milestones and further training are clarified."

14:30 h

"A colleague from the data science team hands me his prototype, which I have to transfer to the production system. To do this, tests have to be written, bugs found have to be eliminated and performance profiling has to be carried out. After the successfully completed quality assurance phase, I add the prototype to the continuous integration pipeline for deployment in the customer's productive environment."

18:30

"After an eventful day, it's off to work - today I'm meeting some colleagues for beach volleyball!"

"The trainee programme has given me the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in many
different projects. Here I was able to
learn a lot from the experienced colleagues and constantly develop myself."

"The tasks of the Data Engineer Trainee grow with every day: the higher your own willingness to learn and interest in the topics, the more experience you can gain in the shortest time.
One thing is guaranteed, both in hands-on projects with helpful and warm-hearted colleagues, as well as in self-selected topics in independent work: It never gets boring!"

Markus - Data Engineering Trainee
